FAQs
If reiki is done on a massage table, do I need to take off my clothes, like a traditional treatment?
No - for reiki treatment it's recommended that you wear loose comfortable clothing.
A sheet or blanket is used over the body, as the activation of the parasympathetic nervous systems, generally causes the recipients body temperature to drop.
What might I feel during or after a treatment?
Many report deep relaxation, it can last approx. 2-3 days, like a good yoga practice.
Although it could happen during treatment, as the physical body detoxifies, it may release with tears, sneezing, coughing, etc. or more dramatically (very rarely) with severe flu like symptoms afterwards. Releasing toxins generally provides noticeable long-term relief.
How long does it take to cure serious ailments?
There is no guarantee of a cure, however with ongoing reiki treatment, many see improvements. It depends on the longevity & severity of the root cause of the physical, mental, emotional and / or spiritual disease, and the frequency of treatment.
How often should I come for treatment?
Depending on the urgency, treatment could occur a few times a day (i.e.: leading up to, during and after surgery), and gradually switch to daily, and reducing frequency as healing improves.
What if I don't like to be touched?
There is always the option for the practitioner to hover over the body, or provide distance healing from the adjacent room or anywhere in the world.
Is there such a thing as bad energy?
Reiki is used only for the highest good of all. During treatment, it's asked that all that is not helpful be released and transmuted. Sensitive practitioners occasionally are overcome during treatment if their own body is acting like a barometer, diagnosing disease; the practitioner may need to step away momentarily as the flow of energy can be very powerful.
How long does it take to learn REIKI?
Each level includes courses that are generally run over 2 days (approx. 15 hours), but can be spread out over 5 evenings depending on the schedule.
What do we need to bring?
An open mind is the most important thing.
Generally, everyone brings a few snacks & their own meal. At a minimum there will be beverages (tea, coffee, juice). Some courses may provide meals as advertised.
Individuals with chronic pain may want to bring a few props to make themselves more comfortable, although some cushions, blocks, mats will be made available.
Slippers, comfortable clothing, and a sweater are ideal.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare ahead of time?
Some students like to take notes, so finding a nice journal with a few writing & notation tools (markers, post-it notes, etc) could be helpful.
There will be handouts for each course, and I encourage you to read them in between classes and during class.
