My Journey to REIKI
In my mid-thirties, I took a course which taught how to use the amazing untapped potential of the mind. The Dynamind course was an enhanced version of Jose Sylva's methods, offered by Jonathan and Janet Kramer. It included alternative healing modalities for self as well as others, an approach to manifesting our desires, methods for understanding others better as well as some practical tools. I practiced distance healing occasionally on friends, family and programmed for my own career advancement. I came to believe in the "superpowers" we all possess which we can develop with practice, through various meditation techniques.

The most remarkable example was an unsolicited early diagnosis of my friend's breast cancer; it came to me in a dream while traveling in Prague while she was in Vancouver. We kept in touch as she went for testing and I offered distance healing. We were both blown away at how she could feel what I was doing, and I could see types of medical testing being conducted (symbolically).

There were many more experiences that proved to me how we are all one organism – a vast connected ecosystem. Although, I understood how capable we are to heal ourselves and others, I found myself always wanting to analyze how it worked, rather than simply trusting in it. I gradually relied less on the techniques, until twenty years afterwards, when I almost died from a massive blood clot.

During my recovery, I meditated to heal, to find answers to life changes that might be necessary to reduce stress and anger. I received my answers in dreams. One dream had incongruous messages of working with the police, another had terrifying tigers that were tame. This manifested metaphorically in real life; I understood I needed to volunteer with homeless youth in a program run by the City of Ottawa Police. My time with helping them, did in fact, help me heal. It filled a spiritual need I had for assisting my community.

As I pondered retiring from my interior design business - the culmination of a forty-year career, a friend referred me to a holographic Reiki practitioner/clairvoyant, Julie Desmarais. After some significant coincidental events, I knew I needed to study Reiki immediately. I never looked back from that day forward. Although I am not a reader, I devoured every book on the subject I could find.

With the progression through the three levels of Reiki training that year and the treatment of countless individuals, I discovered how simple and powerful this modality is. Reiki supported my own healing as well as others. During a Reiki recipient's session, information would appear that I could not possibly have known, but would be later validated. I found it difficult to explain Reiki to others, so I was grateful to hear Reiki Master Leah Smith would accept me in the Reiki Master program so I can teach Reiki to others. I am honored to be entrusted with building our community's awareness of their innate abilities to heal themselves and others.

Reiki confirmed, without a doubt, that the physical body is where disease manifests, when there are imbalances in the mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. I now understand that my massive blood clot was the perfect storm which I unconsciously created, as an opportunity to transform. It was as though a giant hand came out of the sky, sat me down, pointed at me, saying: "Use your gifts"!

As Reiki treats the root cause of a disease state, there is more likelihood of eliminating the problem at its source, rather than merely treating the symptoms that appear on the physical level. I have experienced how effective Reiki can be; I have witnessed utterly distraught people transform into lighter, happier versions of themselves after several sessions.

Reiki has helped heal myself and others in half the anticipated time for an illness or injury. Reiki can act as a complement to First Aid and surgical treatments, as a preventive measure for injury from settling in the body and as a tool to reduce pain from inflammation. Reiki has supported me in times of crisis, helped loved ones recover from illnesses, provided comfort when nearing death and was supportive during the grieving process. Information gleaned through sensing and letting the intelligence of the energy find its way to where needed, can provide guidance in difficult times and even prevent illness.

I now completely trust in the universal life force energy that heals and connects us all.
